Meet the Principal
My name is Dr. Janita Allen, and I am elated to serve as the principal of GCHS. I am a proud GCPS honor graduate and an NCCU Teaching Fellow graduate. As a young child, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. After graduating from NCCU, I decided to begin my career in GCPS because I wanted to give back to the community that extended lots of love and support to my family and me while we were in school. Needless to say, it was the best decision as I have enjoyed teaching math to middle and high school students, coaching teachers as a mentor, and now leading an awesome group of students and educators at GCHS. I believe in the power of education, so I continued my studies by achieving National Board Certification and then earning a master’s degree from NCSU and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from ECU.
During my last year of teaching math at JF Webb before moving to GCHS as an assistant principal, I was honored to represent GCPS as the runner-up for regional Teacher of the Year. As principal of GCHS, Home of the Panthers, I take great pride in supporting the staff and students. I believe we can accomplish all of our goals with teamwork, perseverance, flexibility, patience, and optimism while maintaining a positive attitude. With hard work and determination, we strive to make a difference every day at GCHS.
When not working at school, I enjoy spending time with my amazing family, whom I love dearly. I have a mother who retired as a Teacher Assistant in GCPS, a son who graduated from NC A&T University, a sister and brother who both graduated from Fayetteville State University, a niece who attends Wilton Elementary, a three-year-old granddaughter, and twin granddaughters born on Valentine's Day 2024.
My motto continues to be “Praising students to success.” I am excited as we continue to move forward at GCHS with learning, teaching, and leading.
